Albemarle Interim Management is a dedicated resource that offers organisations the opportunity to meet a defined business objective – within a specific time and budget – by engaging professional management services for a limited period only. Interim assignments typically last from 3 - 6 months, but can be extended by agreement.
Interim managers can be used to bridge critical or unexpected staffing gaps: to fill a vacant post, for example, before a full time appointment is made; or strengthen an existing team, who are over-stretched, lack the specific skills to undertake a particular task effectively, or are simply under-performing.
Interim management can also prove a practical and cost-effective solution for discrete 'one-off' projects, where headcount restrictions prevent – or where there is simply no need for – the recruitment of permanent staff.
Compared to other employment options for short to medium-term projects, interim management, in our view, ensures the best possible outcome: in part because of the quality of our interim managers; in part because of their exceptional commitment – a product of both their personal integrity and terms of engagement.

As an Albemarle client, you contract with an Albemarle Interim for the delivery of a service, rather than signing an employment contract. Once contracted to provide a service, interim managers cannot resign – they have to complete the assignment and achieve the objectives defined in the agreed Terms of Reference that form part of their contract with your organisation. On the other hand, if a project grinds to a halt for whatever reason, you, the client, have the right to negotiate the contract's termination.
In addition, because they operate as Limited Companies, our interim managers arrive with public liability/indemnity insurance. And they're usually paid by the day, so there's no charge for days not worked.

Outside of contractual obligations, you'll find other marked differences. Albemarle interim managers, for example, enjoy the short-term nature of their work. They are interim managers because they want to be, having carefully balanced the risks and rewards of pursuing a career of continuous change. They are consummate professionals, with a positive attitude to their work, and refreshingly open to sharing their expertise and knowledge.
In fact, knowledge transfer is one of the big gains for our clients, for in addition to getting the job done, our interim managers, before they depart, will help ensure your people acquire the skills to take that project forward and embark on new programmes with confidence.
What's more on arriving at your offices, they'll hit the ground running – they've seen it and done it all before. They're exactly the kind of 'grounded' people you need to address some of your most challenging issues. When you engage an Albemarle Interim Executive you get not only a strategic thinker, but someone who can implement strategy as well – a highly competent professional who can really make things happen. And that's where interim managers, we believe, have the advantage over Business Consultants – they provide practical, operational support rather than offering a purely advisory service.
The roles of the interim manager and the Business Consultant are very different. Which is the better option for a specific assignment will depend on whether…
You are looking for a hands-on professional manager with the experience and operational expertise, not only to develop appropriate strategies, but to implement them and ensure your business objectives are achieved…
Or, you are looking for a diagnostic review that will simply advise you on how your business objectives might best be approached.
There is, of course, a place for both approaches. Which route is taken will, of course, depend on which option best meets your objectives – and offers best value for your budget.
Increasingly, as organisations adapt to new economic conditions, leaner management teams in both the public and private sectors appreciate the ability to call on the experience and expertise of our interim managers, as and when they're needed. Today, Albemarle's interim managers are working for some of the UK's largest and most successful organisations in financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, food and drink, telecommunications, transport and travel, and the utilities.
